Gordon Hafner, MD
Dr. Gordon Hafner is board certified in General Surgery. He graduated from the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1978 with a Degree in Zoology and
Animal Biology. He then received his Doctorate of Medicine at George Washington
University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed a General Surgery
Internship and Residency at the George Washington University Medical Center in
Washington DC. After finishing his general surgery residency at George Washington
University, he completed a Surgical Oncology fellowship at the Roswell Park Cancer
Institute in Buffalo, NY.
Dr. Hafner currently serves as Chief of General Surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital,
and is the Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program
at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He is also a Professor with the Department of Medicine at
Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Hafner is a member of several societies and
associations including the Society of Surgical Oncology, American Hernia Society,
American Medical Association, and is a distinguished Fellow with the American
College of Surgeons.
A native of New England, Dr. Hafner currently resides in McLean, Virginia with his
wife Nancy Hafner, MD. In his spare time, he likes to build wooden boats, as well as
other handmade woodworking projects.
